This has been a big week for Keytech Intelligence. We have published our first eBook, Sovereign by Design, and on Saturday 10 October our company was named winner of the ACS Group Emerging Business Award at the 2026 Ipswich Business Excellence Awards, hosted by the Ipswich Region Chamber of Commerce.

An award built on authenticity and confidence

The Ipswich Region Chamber of Commerce runs the Business Excellence Awards each year to recognise the best of local business across 15 categories: https://ipswichchamber.org.au/business-excellence-awards/ The theme for 2026 was Authenticity and Confidence, celebrating organisations that are grounded, credible and forward looking.

Keytech was named a finalist in the Emerging Business category alongside Acutt and Greet Real Estate and ALIGND Pilates, as reported by Local Ipswich News: https://localipswichnews.com.au/news/2026-finalists-named-ipswich-business/ The full finalist list is published by the Chamber here: https://ipswichchamber.org.au/business-excellence-awards/2026-finalists/

More than 360 local business people gathered at the Ipswich Showgrounds for the gala dinner, where our CEO and co-founder Luke Lispet accepted the award. Coverage of the night is available from Ipswich West Moreton Today: https://ipswichnewstoday.com.au/news/2026/10/12/ipswich-business-excellence-awards/ and Ipswich Tribune Today: https://ipswichtribunetoday.com.au/news/2026/10/12/ipswich-business-excellence-awards/

Congratulations to every finalist and to the Chamber, its President David Wiltshire, and the category sponsor ACS Group for backing new businesses in our region.

For Luke and me, the recognition matters because of where it comes from. Ipswich is home. Keytech is based at Brookwater, and we built this company on the belief that serious sovereign technology does not have to come from a capital city tower. It can come from a veteran owned business in the Ipswich region that answers to its clients and to Australian law.

Why we wrote Sovereign by Design

Sovereign by Design is written for business leaders, boards and community organisations. Its central argument is simple: data sovereignty is not an IT setting. It is a business decision about trust, risk and accountability, and it belongs on every leadership agenda.

Many leaders still cannot say with confidence where their data is stored, which laws apply to it, or who could be compelled to hand it over. As AI systems take in more of an organisation's documents, conversations and records, that question becomes harder to ignore.

The guide covers nineteen pages across five themes.

The basics. The difference between data residency, data sovereignty and data localisation. A provider can truthfully say your data is stored in Australia while the company that controls it remains subject to the laws of another country. As the eBook puts it, onshore is a location; sovereign is a commitment.

The standard. What makes a data centre sovereign, and why you should ask any provider which certification level its facilities hold under the Australian Government Hosting Certification Framework: https://www.hostingcertification.gov.au/

Sovereign AI. What sovereign AI requires in practice, how governments around the world are investing in it, and why, for a business, it starts with one principle: your data should not leave your control to make your AI work.

Cyber posture. What ASD's guidance means for your plans, from the Essential Eight: https://www.cyber.gov.au/business-government/asds-cyber-security-frameworks/essential-eight to its newer Essentials work. Keep going with Essential Eight uplift already under way, and plan the next stage around cloud and AI.

Next steps. A self assessment you can take to your next board meeting, and a description of how organisations onboard into Keytech Core.

How we build

I wrote the engineering chapter of the eBook. Sovereignty is easy to claim and hard to engineer, so we treat it as an architecture decision made on day one, not a setting switched on before launch.

In practice that means hosting on Australian Managed Azure through Macquarie Cloud Services: https://macquariecloudservices.com with Macquarie private cloud and private connectivity where a client needs traffic kept off the public internet. It means Microsoft Entra ID single sign on, multi factor authentication and role based access. Each client sits in its own environment with no commingling of data. AI requests are routed to approved models inside the controlled environment, and client data is not used to train public models. Every interaction leaves an audit record of who asked, what was retrieved, which model answered and what was returned.

The infrastructure underneath is operated by Macquarie Technology Group: https://macquarietechnology.com whose facilities are certified at the Strategic level under the Hosting Certification Framework. ISO/IEC 27001 and IRAP assessment at PROTECTED are held by Macquarie for its infrastructure services. We are clear about that distinction in the eBook, because a sovereign claim is only as good as the certificate behind it and the scope it covers. Keytech is also a partner in ASD's Cyber Security Partnership Program, which keeps us close to current threat advice: https://www.cyber.gov.au/partnershipprogram

Who should read it

If your organisation holds health records, client privilege, veteran information, financial data or the personal details of vulnerable people, sovereignty should sit high on your agenda. That includes law firms, health providers, community organisations and anyone preparing for the Privacy Act changes that start on 10 December 2026, which I covered here: https://ausdeeptech.org/insights/privacy-act-10-december-2026-automated-decision-ai-transparency The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner sets out your current obligations here: https://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/australian-privacy-principles

Read it, share it with your board, and take a serious look at where your data sits today.
